Precision from Drawing to Fabrication

Structural detailing is the critical bridge between a structural engineer's design intent and the rebar placer on the construction floor. Every shop drawing must be accurate, code-compliant, constructible, and delivered on schedule, any shortfall creates costly delays.

At Rebar Enterprises Inc., I produced shop drawings and fabrication bar lists for three major Toronto-area residential and mixed-use developments. Using AutoCAD and Rebar CAD, I detailed 100+ tons of rebar monthly to CSA A23.1/A23.3 and ACI 318 standards.

The scope spanned Royal Bayview (North York high-rise), Viva Leaside (East York mixed-use), and Stafford (Toronto residential) — each presenting unique structural systems, tight pour schedules, and close collaboration with engineers of record and general contractors.

From Drawing to Fabrication

1

Drawing Interpretation

Review architectural and structural engineer drawings to understand column grids, slab depths, beam schedules, and connection details.

2

Takeoff & Quantity

Calculate rebar quantities, lengths, and weights from structural drawings, preparing preliminary quantity takeoff reports for estimating.

3

Shop Drawing Production

Draft detailed placement drawings in AutoCAD and Rebar CAD showing bar placement, spacing, laps, hooks, and cover dimensions per CSA/ACI.

4

Bar List Generation

Produce fabrication bar lists with unique mark numbers, bend shapes, tag quantities, and bundle groups for efficient fabrication scheduling.

5

Review & Coordination

Coordinate with the EOR and site team for shop drawing approval, incorporating engineer markups and issuing revised for-construction documents.

6

Site Support

Provide interpretation support during construction, clarifying drawing intent and resolving field RFIs to prevent placement errors.

Landmark Toronto Developments

Royal Bayview

A landmark residential tower in North York requiring extensive post-tensioned slab and shear wall detailing across multiple floors.

  • Shear wall and core wall rebar detailing to CSA A23.3
  • Post-tensioned slab reinforcement coordination
  • Column schedule production and bar list generation
  • RFI support for 15+ field queries during construction

Viva Leaside

A mixed-use residential and commercial development in East York with complex transfer slab and podium structure requirements.

  • Transfer slab reinforcement - high-density rebar zones
  • Coordination with PT tendons and rebar clearance verification
  • Shop drawings for parkade ramp and retaining walls
  • Timetable development to align with pour sequence

Stafford Project

A Toronto residential development with tight construction schedules demanding rapid turnaround on shop drawings without accuracy trade-offs.

  • Foundation mat and grade beam rebar detail packages
  • Floor slab and stair reinforcement drawings
  • Bar list production for fabrication shop coordination
  • Zero placement errors reported across all pours

What Sets the Work Apart

Code Compliance First

Every drawing references the applicable clause in CSA A23.1, CSA A23.3, or ACI 318, ensuring no ambiguity between detailing intent and code requirement.

Zero-Delay Scheduling

Shop drawings were delivered ahead of pour schedules on all three projects, giving contractors adequate review time and eliminating construction stoppages.

Fabrication Efficiency

Bar lists were structured to minimise offcut waste and optimise bundle groupings, reducing fabrication labour time and material cost.

Multi-Party Coordination

Coordinated between structural engineers of record, general contractors, and rebar fabricators to resolve conflicts before they reached the field.
